Top Donors to 7th District Congressional Campaigns

Congressman Pat Meehan leads in fundraising for his re-election bid.

Seventh District Republican Congressman Pat Meehan, who represents Marple and Newtown townships, has raised about five times as much money in his re-election bid than his democratic challenger George Badey.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, a campaign finance organization, Meehan has raised $2,359,293 as of September 30.

Badey has raised $493,001 in the same time period.

Forty-nine percent of the funds raised by Meehan come from PACs; 48 percent from “large contributions.”

Forty-six percent of the funds raised by Badey come from “large contributions”; 26 percent from “candidate self-financing.”

CRP notes that the organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organizations' PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families.

$2,000,000 plus spent on a campaign to win a seat with a two year term and salary less than $200,000. Am I the only one that feels that there are many Quid Pro Quos" attached to this money? I have questioned Mr. Meehan many times about his pledge to Grover Norquist, and in spite of the need for additional revenue to reduce the government deficits he has pledged never to raise taxes, even on the rich, to help. Think about this before you vote for him.
