BROOMALL– is a a full-service nursing and rehabilitation center located on Marple Road in Broomall.
The Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services filed a more recent survey report on Broomall Presbyterian Village on April 5, 2012.
In , based on eight situations on a scale from A to L, with A being the least serious and L being the most serious. However, a more recent report, filed in April of this year reveals the nursing home has improved its severity range of De to E.
A severity score of D through F means no actual harm was done, but there is the potential for minimal harm that does not impose immediate jeopardy, according to Medicare. A score of D means the deficiency is isolated while a score of E means the deficiency may be a developing pattern.
According to the report filed, based on clinical record review and staff interview, it was determined that the facility failed to assess the following:
- Immediately tell the resident, the resident's doctor and a family member of the resident of situations (injury/decline/room, etc.) that affect the resident.
- Provide care by qualified persons according to each resident's written plan of care.
- Provide necessary care and services to maintain the highest well being of each resident.
- Make sure that residents receive treatment/services to not only continue, but improve the ability to care for themselves.
- Give residents proper treatment to prevent new bed (pressure) sores or heal existing bed sores.
- Store, cook, and serve food in a safe and clean way.
- Make sure that the nursing home area is safe, easy to use, clean and comfortable for residents, staff and the public.
- Keep accurate, complete and organized clinical records on each resident that meet professional standards.
Since its review in March 2011, Rachael Dececco, Broomall Presbyterian Village's nursing home administrator, said several changes have been made including leadership and staffing changes.
Dececco, who has been at the nursing home for the past two years, said one of the major leadership changes included a new director of nursing. In addition, Dececco said Broomall Presbyterian Village is moving in a new direction by setting expectations and following through with the staff.
One of the key elements is providing education and skills training for nurses and staff, particularly how to actually provide the care, and dementia and behavioral training, training on abuse, customer service, and fire training.
"But customer service training has been a focus," said Dececco. "It's a tough job and we're trying to provide the best service to our patients. We have a program called 'Presby Service From the Heart,' which is providing the best customer service to everybody. We have about 30 admissions per month and provide short-term and long-term care. We need to provide the best care to cater to those patients."
One of the more apparent changes residents will notice in the future is a new short-stay unit. Broomall Presbyterian Village is renovating its short-term stay unit to a brand new unit by the gym. The renovations are expected to be completed by summer of 2013.
