Newtown's Board of Supervisors provided an update for the public on the status of the Act 537 Plan and police contract at a meeting on Aug. 8.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–At the last Board of Supervisors meeting on Aug. 8, provided the public with a few updates on the comprehensive Act 537 Plan and police contract.

Supervisors hire third-party engineer to review Act 537 Plan

Newtown supervisors hired James MacCombie of MacCombie Engineering Services, also 's municipal engineer, to review the final draft of the township's Act 537 sewer plan for a rate not to exceed of $1,500 to $2,000.

"We thought it necessary to have a clear vision from someone who hasn't been a part of the process," said Mike Trio, township manager, about hiring MacCombie as a third-peer reviewer.

According to Trio, MacCombie has already initiated his review of the plan and will have 30 days to completely review the plan.

The timeline for the plan will go as follows, said Trio: publish the plan for public review and comments, which will then be submitted to the supervisors for their review of the comments and then any final edits will be made before submitting the final plan to the state's Department of Enviornmental Protection.

"We hope to get that plan reviewed and revised by sometime early next year...probably February," said Trio hoepfully.

Police contract still under solicitor's review

At last week's supervisors meeting, Chairman Joseph Catania revealed that the police contract is still in the final stages of being finalized and is currently under review by the solicitor.

According to Catania, the plan is nearly ready to go but is currently under review for a few minor changes in the language of certain parts of the contract.
