Candidate Introduction

Ray Lopez - Candidate for Newtown Township Supervisor

I want to thank all those who voted in the Primary election and have chosen me to be a candidate for Newtown Township Supervisor in the November general election. You will be able to elect two new Supervisors in November. If you elect me as Supervisor, I will listen to your concerns with respect and I will work to understand the issues prior to making decisions for Newtown Township.

I have been a resident of Newtown Township since 1999.  I reside in the Springton Pointe Estates neighborhood which is in the First Precinct. My two children attended local public schools; Culbertson Elementary, Paxon Hollow Middle School and Marple Newtown High School. In the past, I have provided service to the Newtown-Edgmont Little League and the Newtown Township Municipal Authority.  I currently serve as the President of the Springton Pointe Estates Home Owners Association.

I am running for the Supervisor position because I was asked to consider doing so by some of the township residents, not because I choose to run for personal reasons or to support any one agenda. Foremost, I am not a politician and have been assured that any decisions that I would have to make if elected, would be without any political influence.

I would like to see a more transparent leadership body, and the feeling of small town closeness; where the residents can speak openly to their elected officials and not feel intimidated.  Some residents that I have spoken to have various opinions on township issues, but will not address them openly at the public meetings.  I feel that this culture should change, and the residents should not feel that they have to express these opinions to the Supervisors off the record when the official meeting is over.

I would like residents to feel that they have a Supervisor who has an understanding and sympathetic ear. A person that they feel as comfortable speaking to at a public meeting as they would in a social setting. I believe that it is the duty of the Township Supervisors and employees to provide services to the residents and businesses that reside in our township, without prejudicial favoritism.

I am looking forward to hearing from Newtown residents and would be happy to meet with you. I hope that you will contact me via email with any of your questions or concerns at RaymondLopez2013@yahoo.com.
