Alzheimer's Caregiver Class Now Forming At Penn Memory Center

One recurring theme in as an elder lawyer is the challenge a family faces assisting a loved one with Alzheimer's or Dementia. Contrary to what some readers think, some families do want to be there for their loved one. Of course they must develop special skills to help. I have at least one client with Alzheimer’s who is happy, cared for and safe, thanks to the help of relatives and friends.

There is a specialized group at University of Pennsylvania called the Penn Memory Center and they have the announcement about special classes for caregivers. I’ve been told that if you cannot make this current class, and/or if you would like to see the course offered at Penn Radnor, you should call to be placed on a waiting list for future programs. Let them know you called after reading my post.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Class Now Forming (Penn Memory Center)

The Penn Memory Center, a National Institute on Aging-designated Alzheimer’s Disease Center, offers a psycho-educational class for those caring for someone with dementia. The course is designed to help caregivers develop skills to help them cope. Classes will be held Tuesdays from September 10 through October 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 3535 Market Street in Philadelphia. The enrollment fee is $200; some need-based financial assistance is available. Caregivers of people with any stage of dementia may join. The course is focused on the needs of people who are being cared for while still living in the community and need support with tasks such as managing money, taking medications, cooking or driving. To register or learn more, contact Caroline Conroy at 215-662-4508 or e-mail caroline.conroy@uphs.upenn.eduClick here for details.
