$31K Donated to MNSD Schools

A total donation of $31,000 was donated to a few schools in the Marple Newtown School District.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The of Directors happily accepted several thousands of dollars worth of donations to schools in the district at a school board meeting on Aug. 28.

The amount of donations totals to $31,000. Here's the breakdown of each donation and which schools will receive the donations.

  • $2,000 to – This is a mini grant for the middle school's PA Project Learning Tree Green School Project. According to Project Learning Tree's website, Project Learning Tree (PLT) uses trees and forests as windows on the world to increase students’ understanding of the environment. PLT provides educators with curriculum, professional development, and resources to integrate environmental education into lesson plans for all grades and subject areas and to use the outdoors to engage students in learning about the world around them.
  • $4,000 to – This is a Respect Program Education grant from Audobon-based company J.P. Mascaro & Sons. The Respect Program was created to educate youth on the importance of respect, according to J.P. Mascaro & Sons' website. It also incorporates valuable and important information with a fun, interactive presentation. It includes several educational services, educational standards as stated by the state of Pennsylvania and is geared towards children in grades third through fifth.
  • $25,000 to – This is part of a $50,000 individual anonymous gift donation that was unanimously approved by the school board in June of this year that will go towards the puchase of equipment for the at the high school. Jones served for 41 years as a teacher, friend, colleague, coach, mentor, athletic director and leader to thousands of MNHS students. Jones retired in 2004.
