Episcopal Academy’s Super Bowl

Episcopal Academy football coach Todd Fairlie likes the team's progression this season.

NEWTOWN SQUARE– wiped one slate clean last weekend when the Churchmen beat Germantown Academy, winning an Inter-Academic League game for the first time since October 2008, snapping a 15-game league losing streak.

The young Churchmen face a stiff, grim task against powerful Haverford School, which visits Episcopal Academy this Saturday at 2 p.m. in a major rivalry game between the two schools.

“We’re coming off the important win over Germantown Academy, and the kids did a very good job,” Churchmen coach Todd Fairlie said.

With the Churchmen's quarterback back in the game, the team is moving forward positively.

“It’s been important to have our quarterback back, Adam Strouss, he makes a huge difference. We finally have some things going offensively,” said Fairlie.

Episcopal Academy was down 7-0 late against Malvern Prep, before losing 14-0, and lost to Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 7-0.

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy beat Haverford School earlier this season. The Churchmen are 3-6, exceeding last year's 2-8 finish.

Though they face a tough opponent on Saturday, Fairlie is hopeful and sees the team playing with confidence.

“We’re getting back to where we thought we would be with Adam as our quarterback,” Fairlie said. “It should be a good game. Haverford School is a good team, but we feel our confidence is high, and we hung with Malvern Prep until the end. We actually think we could have played a lot better.”
