Fast Forward: Worrall Students Dance For More SMART Boards

As of last Friday, Worrall Elementary School's Dance-Off contest brought in $6,000 in support of the purchasing of more SMART boards.

In this week's Fast Forward feature, we captured 's Dance-Off Contest in fast motion. From the hand jive and hip-hop to Michael Jackson's Thriller and Kevin Bacon's Footloose moves, the school-wide event took place last Friday to help fundraise for more SMART boards for the school.

In collaboration with the school's PTO and music teacher Larysa Dragonetti and physical education teacher Chris Penney, several dances were created and practiced since January which were performed by every grade for the event.

Renee O'Donnell, Worrall PTO president, said the fundraiser actually began several weeks prior to the dance-off contest where students were asked to bring in donations–$10 would give them a Worrall rubber bracelet; $25 for an Adidas water bottle; and $40 would enter them into the ultimate prize of an iPad. The more the students brought in $40, the more their chances increased for the iPad and several other prizes including Modell's gift cards, t-shirts and a week-long membership to the AllBall Basketball Camp.

Prizes were offered on the class level as well, according to O'Donnell. Any class that brings in $350 or more, collectively, earns a Best Buy/Minute to Win It Party. According to O'Donnell, this party entails Best Buy coming to the school's gym with various video equipment and age-appropriate games for the kids to play. This party will happen on June 9 and all classes that reach the $350 level may participate. So far, O'Donnell said there are six classes at the school that have earned the party.

Lastly, for the class that brings in the most money, they will earn a pizza party as well, said O'Donnell. Students and parents can still donate and participate in the fundraiser through June 1. The school has collected $6,000 so far since last Friday's dance contest.
