Longtime MNSD School Board Director Resigns

David McGinley, a longtime Marple Newtown School Board director, resigned on Tuesday.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Only a few weeks after the resignations of former school board directors Fred Dewey and Jamie Mariano, longtime school board director and former Marple Newtown School Board President David McGinley submitted his letter of resignation at Tuesday night's special school board meeting.

McGinley, who was absent from Tuesday's meeting, was on his eighth year serving as a school board director for the Marple Newtown School District. McGinley served for several years as the board's president.

McGinley's resignation is effective Feb. 13. The resignation was accepted by the board unanimously but not without a few words from a couple of school board members.

School Board vice president and 12-year veteran on the board Nancy Galbraith has served with McGinley for all the years he has been on the board. Galbraith said through McGinley's leadership, the district was able to accomplish many things.

"Dave [McGinley] and I had our differences over the last bit of our time but I have to say that without him, we wouldn't have a high school," said Galbraith. "Dave's legacy will be when you drive down Media Line Road, it will speak for itself."

School Board President Kathryn Chandless also shared the same sentiments and stated, "Although I haven't worked with Dave [McGinley] just as long, he has done fantastic things while he was here and, although, he's not here tonight I wish him the best."

This year's election will call for the following open seats: three, full-term positions with no incumbents running (Nancy Galbraith, David McGinley, and John McDevitt); two, full-term positions with two incumbents running (Chandless and Jim Lanzalotto), and now three, partial-term positions (Dewey, Mariano, and McGinley).
