Marple Newtown Football Coach Ray Gionta is Philadelphia Eagles' Coach Of the Week

Ray Gionta, Marple Newtown High School's head football coach, was recognized by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night's game against the New York Giants as their Coach of the Week.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia Eagles recognized 's head football coach at the game against the New York Giants on Sept. 25 as their Coach of the Week.

The Coach of the Week is a program offered by the Eagles to give high school coaches "the recognition they deserve, and provides high schools financial assistance in maintaining and upgrading their football programs," according to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In addition, the Eagles' website states that, "Each week during the high school football season, the Eagles will select one high school football coach as the Coach of the Week winner. Each recipient receives tickets to an Eagles home game and a $1,000 donation to the school's athletic department."

Gionta leads the Tigers 3-1 so far this season. The team has faced surprising upsets, including the game against defending Central League and District One champion Strath Haven, winning 24-7.

Though he's bringing success on the field for the Tigers, Gionta also initiates volunteering and serving the community throughout the year with his team.
