Marple Newtown High School Announces Delayed School Opening

NEWTOWN SQUARE– officials announced a delayed opening for on Wednesday evening.

The district will open its doors for all schools in the district on Tuesday, Sept. 6, however, school officials announced a one-day delay for the high school, which will now open its doors on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

"There will be no classes on Tuesday, Sept. 6, for the high school students only," announced school officials. "All high school students will report to school on Wednesday, Sept. 7."

According to the district, the delay is mainly due to the at the high school.

The schedule for Wednesday will follow the previously published schedule for Tuesday.  Specifically, all ninth-grade students and students new to the district will report at 7:40 a.m. for an approximate two-hour orientation program, stated school officials. 

In addition, all returning tenth-, eleventh-, and twelfth-grade students will report to the high school at 9:40 am.  

Officials state that they do not expect any further delays to the high school opening date.

"At this point we are very confident that no further delays will occur and the high school will open for students on Sept. 7," said official.

School officials assured that Marple Newtown School District staff and employees will be working on the high school to meet the new opening date.

"Contractors and Marple Newtown Operations and Technology staff will be working diligently throughout the week and into the weekend to prepare the school to open on Sept. 7," stated school officials. "Our entire high school staff will be working on Tuesday, Sept. 6, to prepare the building for students the next day. We thank you for your patience and understanding."
