Marple Newtown is Looking to Secure a Playoff Berth

Even after their homecoming loss, the Tigers still remain in a top spot to make the PIAA District 1 Class AAA playoffs.

NEWTOWN SQUARE– fell to 6-2 in the Central League after a tough , but the Tigers are still in a prime spot to make the PIAA District 1 Class AAA playoffs.

The Tigers were second heading into last week in the District 1 point standings, behind leader Springfield (Delco).

But the loss dropped Marple Newtown to third or fourth in the average-point standings, with winless Class AAAA school Radnor next, followed by the very good—and angry—Springfield team, which just lost for the first time last Friday.

A victory over Radnor would give the Tigers a 7-2 record and almost secure a playoff berth in District 1 Class AAA, which takes the top eight teams.

The teams that qualify for the district playoffs will begin to play on the weekend of Nov. 11, play a single-elimination tournament for three consecutive weekends.

What the Tigers are playing for now, it seems, is a home playoff game—which they would achieve as a top four team in the final standings and concludes the tenth week of the season on Nov. 5.

So, in other words, a home playoff game for the Tigers could come down to a Central League showdown with Springfield on Nov 4.
