Marple Newtown Scholarship Offered In Honor Of Alumni Jeffrey Zaslow

Jeffrey Zaslow's family has offered to create a scholarship for students at Marple Newtown High School.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–In light of the recent in February, a scholarship has been created to Marple Newtown students by Zaslow's family.

Zaslow, 53, a native of Broomall, was a resident of West Bloomfield, MI, who co-wrote The Last Lecture and was also known as a Wall Street journalist, died on the morning of Feb. 10 in an auto accident in northern Michigan.

Marple Newtown school officials unanimously approved, 8-0, the establishment of the Jeffrey Zaslow Scholarship Fund at a school board meeting on Tuesday.

According to Superintendent Merle Horowitz, Zaslow's parents, who now reside in Florida, contacted the district to establish a scholarship fund for Marple Newtown students. His mother, Naomi, was the first public relations officer for the .

"This was created for students, family, and friends of the family before we started to get donations in," said Horowitz about establishing the Jeffrey Zaslow Scholarship Fund after Tuesday's meeting.

The scholarship fund will be reserved for Marple Newtown students and anyone may donate to the fund. 

Zaslow is survived by wife, WJBK-TV/Channel 2 newscaster Sherry Margolis, and three daughters, Jordan, Alex and Eden.
