Meet Marple Newtown Teacher Frances Carr

Marple Newtown Patch is featuring great teachers in the Marple Newtown area who deserve some spotlight. Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do. After 25 years of teaching and sharing her love for biology, this educator will be retiring this year.

Background: 

1973-1981: Biology teacher and basketball and track coach.
1981-1998: Stay-at-home mom, homebound tutor.
1998-present: Biology teacher at Marple Newtown High School (will retire in June 2013).

What do you like most about your job? 

I enjoy seeing students grow and learn, and eventually become productive adults.

Why did you become a teacher? 

I love kids and I love biology. It was a good fit for me during student teaching. I found I had patience and an ability to explain things well.

What do you like best about your current school (projects, programs or activities that your school is a part of): 

I love the smaller size of the school. It’s a little more personal, and one can get to know more students. Our science department overall is excellent, and the facilities are new and very nice. Our charity events, sports programs, and Hi-Q team are very good for a smaller school. I also love the Annenberg Science Symposium. I am the faculty advisor, and this is a group of highly intelligent and motivated students interested in medicine.
