Marple Newtown Patch is featuring great teachers in the Marple Newtown area who deserve some spotlight. Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do. Twenty-five years ago, this third-grade teacher loved the spirit of St. Annies so much she hasn't left yet.

Teaching History: I graduated from Penn State University. I worked with preschoolers in Early Childhood for six years. I have been at St. Anastasia School for 25 years. I enjoy teaching third grade.

What do you like most about your job?

I really like the everyday activity of the classroom with such great students. I like being creative and trying to meet the needs of each student. We have a faculty and staff who are caring and supportive people. I enjoy sharing and working with them.

Why did you become a teacher?

I have had great  teachers in my school experiences. They were positive influences for me. I knew in high school that I would like to teach. When I was doing classroom experiences and observations for my classes, I was often impressed with creative and interesting teachers in their classrooms.

What do you like best about your current school (projects, programs or activities that your school is a part of):

Saint Anastasia is a great school with great spirit. We have interested and supportive families in our school community. We are a Blue Ribbon school that offers many opportunities for our students–Science Fair, Reading Olympics, Spelling Bees, Accelerated Reading, Honors Math, which are only to mention  a few. Band, choir, Theater Arts, Art competitions and shows, and many sports provide something for everyone.

I like celebrating Liturgies as a school. I love seeing our students singing, and working together to prepare and to celebrate. Our student council is an active part of our school. Throughout the year there are many opportunities for service. Older students pair with younger students as prayer partners. They work on projects such as making cards for our military, for people who are ill, or for seniors in our community.

The spirit of Saint  Anastasia School is terrific!
