MNSD Awards Local Parent 'Friend of Education'

The Marple Newtown School District recently announced this year's recipient of the American Education Week's Friend of Education Award to Neal Oberholtzer, a parent of four Marple Newtown High School graduates.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Marple Newtown School District announced this year’s recipient of the American Education Week's Friend of Education Award. The recipient of the award for this year went to Neal Oberholtzer at Marple Newtown High School.

Oberholtzer is a parent of four Marple Newtown High School graduates. He sponsors the Chess Club and on a weekly basis is diligent in helping the members improve their skills.

He also supports the Astronomical Society to secure new telescopes and develop fundraisers. Oberholtzer volunteers until 10 p.m. for 'Star Parties' and spent all day at the 'Transit of Venus,' to ensure photos were captured. Oberholtzer shares his knowledge about satellites from his full-time career which is helpful in locating planets and stars for observation. He presents this material clearly to members.

"Neal is an all around good guy, who donates lots of time and loves to see kids learn," wrote the district in a press release.
