Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Halle Robinson

This week, Marple Newtown Patch spoke with Halle Robinson, a high-achieving student, volunteer, and athlete.

Each week, Marple Newtown Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. This week, we highlight Halle Robinson, a soon-to-be Paxon Hollow Middle School student and a recent graduate for her dedication and passion for always doing her best in the classroom and on the court.

Halle was also a captain of the this past year at Russell, where they received a blue ribbon. And if that wasn't enough, Halle has volunteered her time this past year at Russell's library as well as received a music award for her saxophone playing skills. In addition, Halle received the best overall prize for her Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Awareness poster in this year's 23rd Annual Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems' poster contest. Funded by the Delaware County Office of Behavioral Health, over 1,100 posters were submitted by 34 schools. Halle was honored at the County Courthouse in Media and received a $200 savings bond.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: This is Halle's second year entering the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Awareness poster contest. She won best message last year with: "If you stay on track, you won't fall back."

This year, her winning message was: "To live drug free, you choose the right key."

Halle, who learned about the dangers of drugs and alcohol in health class, truly believes in her message and said, "I think people who do drugs...I think they should stop because it really hurts their bodies."

Halle, who also writes poetry on the side (she's won 2nd place in the Mad Poets Society before on a poem about basketball), loves the creative freedom when writing.

"You have the freedom to write whatever you want," said Halle. When she was in second grade, her first poem was about Ketchup because "I just really love Ketchup."

If she's not writing or entering contests and volunteering, Halle's other love is for basketball.

"When I was little, my sister would play sports and she would be playing outside in the driveway with my dad and I would just watch them play," recalled Halle.

With the sport all around her, Halle said she "couldn't wait" to be on a team. Currently playing for the Lower Delco Wildcats in the AAU League, Halle believes basketball is something special.

"Basketball is a sport that you can't play by yourself," said Halley. "You need to play with other players and you need to just really work together. That's how you accomplish your goals by working together and that's what I like about it."

Halle aspires to play in the WNBA someday or coach for a girl's competitive basketball league, or a physical education teacher.

Although she's already accomplished more than many students her age, Halle is excited to dabble in a few more activities in middle school, including basketball, soccer and lacrosse as well as the marching band.

"I'm excited," said Halle. "It's exciting to have all these different classes and having to be able to take a language [she'll be taking Spanish], and to be able to play in all these team sports."
