Whiz Kid's School:

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Megan scored her 1,000th point at the Blue Chip Super Sunday Showcase at Archbishop Carroll on Jan. 29, a premier high school showcase event on the east coast. Before the showcase, she was just shy of her 1,000th point by three points, which were easily achieved throughout the day. This basketball superstar, who plays center for the Churchwomen, has already verbally committed to play at Villanova University. Megan has also been playing for the Philadelphia Belles Nike Travel Team since seventh grade.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: "It's been exciting," shared Megan about making her 1,000th point with the Churchwomen. "A bunch of my friends came out for it so that was really fun."

Megan is the third player to reach their 1,000th point in the school's girls' basketball history. As the days were leading up to the Blue Chip showcase event last month, head coach Chuck Simmonds soon began realizing how close Megan was to achieving the milestone.

"Every year we have a basketball banquet and they announce the highest scores of the season. Our coach started adding things up and saw that I was pretty close to be in the running for this," said Megan.

Growing up in a basketball family, it's no wonder Megan feels the most comfortable on the court. Loving the sport only came naturally. Her big sister Kelly, 19, has been a big influence on Megan.

"I've been playing basketball since kindergarten," shared Mega. "My parents used to play basketball and my sister used to play outside with me. I was always taller than everyone, so I could always get my own rebounds. But once I got older, I really started to like it. My sister still plays with me sometimes. She's helped me a lot with the sport."

Standing at 6-foot, 2-inches, Megan has played in a number of leagues growing up but she remembers the first time she ever played in a league or on a team (St. Norbert's in Paoli) was an exciting moment for her.

"I was so excited I would skip down the court," laughed Megan.

But a favorite and memorable basketball event was when Megan and the Belles Nike elite team made nationals and played in Georgia for a full-out competition against the top 20 Nike elite teams in the league.

Megan, who is already making waves for the Churchwomen, will soon play for her dream school Villanova University.

"I've dreamed about playing for them since first grade. In my sixth-grade copybook I wrote, 'When I get older, I want to play basketball for Villanova,'" shared Megan. "It's so close to home and I've already met a bunch of the the girls there. I love the school and the coaches."

One of the biggest things she's looking forward to playing with Villanova is playing in the Big East Conference games and playing on notable courts like Notre Dame and University of Pennsylvania.

But for now, Megan said she's trying to focus on playing at Episcopal and the team who she calls family now. Having the time of her life, it also doesn't help that the team is getting better and better.

"The coaches are awesome and the girls are great. We're all so close on and off he court and have team lunches," said Megan. "It's especially fun playing with them because we're getting to be good. We had pretty rough losses this year. This yea, one of my goals was to possibly win our league. We keep pushing each other and keep working hard to get better."

Outside of basketball, a few things she's looking forward to is the prom and her senior year.

"Everyone's already excited and talking about the prom. I'm excited for it," said Megan.
