Culbertson Holds Annual Pumpkin Festival

The annual event has been held for over 40 years at Culbertson Elementary School.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Pumpkin carving, real-life Angry Birds and a haunted house were a few of the fun activities students and their families as well as other locals enjoyed on Saturday at the . Beautiful sunny weather helped make the day a success, along with hard work by parent and teacher volunteers.

The Culbertson Pumpkin Festival is put on each year by the school's PTO. The festival has been held each year probably since the mid-1960s, guesses Culbertson teacher Lynne Corle, who attended the school herself in the 1950s.

This year's Pumpkin Festival saw more than $5,000 in ticket sales, which will be used to support the school through the PTO. The Culbertson PTO funds field trip buses and drivers, assemblies, and school events like Grandparents and Goodies, among other causes and events throughout the year.

Kids had the chance to make art, nosh on cupcakes, play a variety of games, make music with a live band, carve pumpkins and enjoy other fun activities on Saturday. The day also included a raffle, and first grader Logan Meehan-Wenger got to take home a Mario Kart Wii System, 's Emily Dobbs won a Nintendo DSI XL, and kindergartner Madelyn Impriano won an iPod Touch. Matthew Karaolis also left the festival with a new bike, donated by RGM Screen Printing Solutions.

"We heard nothing, but positive feedback," PTO Secretary Pam Lairdieson said after the event. "Many said it was the best Pumpkin Festival ever. I'm sure the beautiful weather helped, but we were so busy that we had to send parents out to buy more hot dogs, pretzels and pizza. The Bake Table sold every crumb and we ran out of coffee. Overall, it was a great day."
