Staying Humble, Delco Christian Has Big Week Ahead

The Knights are 6-0 so far this season and are playing as the team to beat this season.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The best little story in local football is a tiny, little school that just began varsity football for the first time last year—winning two games.

This year, , in its second season as a varsity program is 6-0, tripling its victory total of a year ago. The Knights were once everyone’s homecoming opponent, hoping that an easy victory would be served up on a plate.

Not so this very special year, which promises to take another turn, when New Hope Solebury visits the Knights this Saturday at 7 p.m., at , where Delco Christian plays its home games.

“We haven’t won anything yet, our biggest focus is staying humble and to keep working,” Knights’ senior quarterback Matt Hirshman said. “We just have to keep doing what we’re doing."

A stark contrast from last year, the Knights have come a long way and are playing with a target on their backs this season.

"The biggest difference is going up to games and teams getting fired up for us," said Hirshman. "We are getting more of a feeling like we have a target on our backs. We have to realize everyone is gunning for us now. We’re looking forward to New Hole Solebury.”

The Knights sit atop the PIAA District 1 Class A rankings, but the team is maintaining their hard work regiment and trying to stay humble.

“I think a lot of our success is forgetting the win of the past week,” Knights’ senior fullback/linebacker said. “I think we have a lot of good leaders on this team. What happened since the beginning of the season, especially with the , there was a bit of arrogance. All the captains got together the week after the to put the message out to stay humble and keep working hard. We’re in a position to win something.”
