The Knights Continue To Go Strong

Delaware County Christian School's football team is now 3-0 for the season.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Don’t look now—but that fledgling program that won just two games last year has started this season 3-0.

which was in its first year as a varsity program in 2010 and went 2-7 overall, came back in the fourth quarter for the second time this year—beating Bristol, 21-20, on Friday night.

The Knights played in a torrential downpour throughout much of the game, but it didn’t stop them from overcoming 14-0 and 20-7 deficits.

“We have that mentality, even at halftime, that we knew we were going to win and that’s the mentality we’re building now,” said Mike Monaghan, Delco Christian’s starting running back and linebacker.

What they had wasn't revealed until they started the season as a team.

“The only way we’re going to lose is if we beat ourselves. Coming into this season, we knew we had something going on, but we really didn’t know until the season started,” said Monaghan.

To prepare for fourth quarters, the Knights, who play many players both ways, will do added sprints and up-downs to increase their endurance.

“It is a mentality; we’re coming out with confidence now,” Monaghan said. “We know we can beat each team we play, but that’s only if we play our game it looks good.”

And it’s sure looked good so far.
