Two Local Newtown Square Students Receive Ellis Memorial Scholarships

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The announces the 2011 winners of the . GlenFern Livezey and Matthew Momjian, both of Newtown
Square, split the $500 annual scholarship.

Momjian is a sophomore at Franklin & Marshall College while Livezey is a senior at Eastern University.

The purpose of the Madaleen Ellis Memorial Scholarship, established in 2011, is to promote interest in the mission of the Newtown Square Historical Society and to support the education of residents. The scholarship also aims to honor the memory of a key contributor to the Society, encourage Society membership and awareness.

Madaleen Ellis (1927-2007) lived in Newtown Square for more than 40 years. She was a founder, long-time volunteer director, and chairperson of the board of the . She was also an active member of the historical society, , the Fire Auxiliary, the Echo Valley Community Association, Villagers, and the Women’s Club of Newtown Square.

Ellis served as President of the Newtown Square Historical Society in the 1990s. The scholarship was initiated by a trust fund established by the historical society through an estate donation by Ellis.

Scholarship applications are accepted in January and February and can be submitted online at http://www.historicnewtownsquare.org.
