VIDEO: 25 Years Later, MNHS Lax Champs Reunite

The 1987 Marple Newtown High School girls lacrosse champs reunited at a home game on Saturday, April 28.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Teammates, coaches and even parents from the 1987 at their old stomping grounds.

Organized by co-captain of the 1987 team, Cynthia Mathes Howard, the 12 starting members of the team dedicated a bench to the current Marple Newtown girls lacrosse team, which was presented at Saturday's home game against Avon Grove.

Though two or three teammates were missing, a good majority were present for the dedication and team reunion, including their parents and children, on the windy Saturday morning. And although some are local–like Marple Newtown School District teachers Tara Lauria Wark and Mary Kay Mary Kay Orcutt Puchalla–some traveled as far away as Charleston, SC (Meghan Mulqueen Taylor) and Boston, MA (Laurie Raezer).

Also present was 1987 championship coach JoAnn Yusko, founder and now coach of the competitive Phantastix Lacrosse Club, and her faithful assistant coach at the time Dotty Rose, now 80, the former MNHS Health/Phys. Ed. teacher.

The Marple Newtown High School girls lacrosse team has not been able to win a state championship since the team took the title in 1987 against Radnor High School in the finals.
