Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Since Emily can remember, she's always had some kind of ball in her hand. Soccer and softball were also played in her younger years, but basketball "just kind of stuck."

Emily has been playing basketball since the third grade and has continued to play the sport for nearly a decade now, pushing herself to improve and to perfect it.

"It's just really fun," described Emily about why she loved the sport. "There are so many different aspects in basketball that you can work to improve."

She plays the sport nearly all-year round and plays against girls that are "better than me," which forces her to step up her game and to play her best each time.

Her advice to herself and others? "Be aggressive. Don't be intimidated and always go out there and try your hardest."

Editor's note: Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.
