Get to Know Ellen Trantas - Candidate for Marple Newtown School Board

Meet School Board Candidate Ellen Trantas - resident of Marple for 18 years and mother of two students at Russell School.

Ellen Trantas wants to serve as a Marple Newtown School Board Director and plans to focus on developing strategic plans to strengthen academic and extracurricular programs.

Ellen has lived in Broomall for 18 years.  She has two children attending Russell Elementary School. Ellen and her family are active in St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall. For the past 3 years, Ellen has served as a homeroom parent at Russell Elementary School.  She has also been Russell’s Parent-Teacher Organization representative to the School Board.  Ellen regularly attends and participates in School Board meetings.

Ellen grew up in neighboring Springfield and attended Springfield High School. Ellen graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Arts.  She has spent her career working in Development and Alumni Relations at several higher education institutions, including Delaware County Community College, Pennsylvania College of Optometry and for the past 16 years, Bryn Mawr College.  Currently, her work focuses on developing systems and business processes.  Ellen knows how to help organizations run more effectively and efficiently.  She will bring this experience to the Marple Newtown School Board to ensure that taxpayers’ dollars are used to the community’s greatest benefit.

When asked to state why she was running to become a School Board Director, Ellen said,

“I am running for School Board because I am proud of our students and teachers.  I want Marple Newtown Schools to provide the highest quality education.  I believe that a strong public school system is the best asset that we have to improve the value of our neighborhood.  If I am elected, I want to focus on developing a strategic plan to strengthen academic and extracurricular programs that will enhance student achievement.”
