On June 15, 1996 the Broomall Fire Company hosted the dual housing of Engine 53-3 and Rescue 53-6.The day began at noon with a parade at the campus of Delaware County Community College.
The route would wind through the township and ended at the Firehouse, Malin Road and West Chester Pike. The rescue truck was dedicated to Chief Engineer Larry O’Connor, Sr. who was involved with the design of the rescue truck.

When a fire company takes delivery of a new engine, rescue, aerial truck or other new piece of apparatus, the new addition to the fleet is “housed”. What does housing mean?
When a housing is done, the new truck is ceremoniously placed into service. This occurs even though the piece of apparatus may have been responding to calls. This is a tradition dating back to the 1700’s!
