While the firefighters from Broomall Engine 53-3 were attacking the fire, a hood strut piston exploded and rocked through the driver side headlight assembly striking Firefighter Gregory Kett. Firefighter Kett was standing approximately 30 feet from the vehicle assisting with the hose line.

The Marple Township Ambulance crew transported Firefighter Kett to the Bryn Mawr Hospital where he was treated for a puncture wound on his left leg and released the same day. After treatment Kett returned to work.  No other injuries were reported.
