Rose Tree Swim Club Hosts Swim-A-Thon For Newtown Square Family and National MS Society

A swim-a-thon was held by the swim club's swim and dive team to support National MS Society and Sophia Agatone, a Newtown Square resident.

BROOMALL–The swim and dive team sponsored a swim-a-thon on Sunday, June 12, for two hours to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society as well as Sophia Agatone, a Newtown Square resident and member of the swim club.

The swim-a-thon consisted of a relay team format, and each participant donated a minimum of $5. Swimmers were encouraged to raise additional donations to support the cause.  All proceeds were donated to the National MS Society and Team Sophia.

Sophia Agatone is the sister of Rose Tree Woods swimmers Matthew and Ashley.  She was diagnosed with MS two years ago at the age of 5.  Sophia has a condition called locked-in syndrome in which she is aware and awake but cannot move or communicate verbally due to paralysis of the voluntary muscles in her body.  The swim club hopes through their donation that research and advances could one day lead Sophia with a normal life.
