Battle of Bands, Skate with Santa, Tennis Camp Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of holiday happenings this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Santa Claus will be busy again this weekend as he takes a spin around the roller skating rink. It's the last Wednesday for Carriage Rides in Media and be sure to check out local band UpFront as they compete in Philadelphia's Battle of the Bands.

Skate with Santa

  • When: Saturday, Dec. 21 from 3 to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Marple Sports Arena, 611 Park Way Blvd. Broomall,
  • Why Go: Roller skate with Santa at this annual family-fun event that is sure to get you in the holiday spirit. There will be free giveaways and take pictures with Santa for free.
Historical Society Craft Fair
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: Sidewalk in front of Newtown Square Hardware
  • Why Go: The Newtown Historical Society will sell lighted historical replicas of local historical sites and other gifts.
  • Cost: Credit cards accepted

Carriage Ride Wednesdays-Last Week

  • When: WednesdayDec. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. 
  • Where: Rides start in front of the Delaware County Courthouse
  • Why Go: Take a carriage ride through the streets of downtown Media and enjoy the streets lit up for the holiday season. 
  • Cost: Adults $10 and kids under 10 $5

Visit Santa's Village

  • Where: Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, on State Street in Media 
  • Why Go: Visit Santa at his Village and don't forget to bring a camera.
  • Cost: Free
A Christmas Carol
  • When: Showtime dates and times vary
  • Where: Hedgerow Theatre, 64 Rose Valley Road, Rose Valley
  • Why Go: This year marks the 21st annual presentation of the classic Charles Dickens tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, who transforms from miser to man and honors Christmas in his heart, as adapted by internationally known playwright Nagle Jackson. 
  • Cost: Tickets $34 for adults; $31 for seniors; $15 for students/under 18.
Battle of the Bands
  • When: Sunday, Dec. 22 at 4 p.m.
  • Where: The Nail, 2580 Haverford Rd in Ardmore
  • Why Go: Hot off their "front of the line audition" for America's Got Talent, Media's own UpFront will compete in the Philadelphia Battle of the Bands. UpFront will compete against 13 other local bands. 
  • Cost: Open to all ages, $8 advance tickets

Holiday Tennis Camp

  • When: Starts Dec. 23
  • Where: Healthplex Sports Club, 194 West Sproul Road in Springfield
  • Why Go: Don't miss the Holiday Tennis Camps for adult and junior tennis players. Open to members and non-members of the Healthplex.
  • Cost: Registration and fee required.
