Beach Boys, Stargazing, Photography Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community and arts events. What better way to celebrate summer then by singing along to the Beach Boys or stay cool inside at a photography exhibit or take in Fiddler on the Roof.

  • When: Sunday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Rose Tree Park, Route 252, in Upper Providence Township
  • Why Go: Everybody's going "surfing" in Rose Tree Park. Enjoy the five-part harmonies, authentic costuming and choreography at this Beach Boys tribute concert.  Find the full schedule of the concert series here.
  • Cost: Free

Stargazing

  • When: Friday, July 26, at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Rd in Media
  • Why Go: Explore the evening sky as members of the Chester County Astronomical Society guide your observations and provide an introduction on how to read a star map.
  • Cost: $15 members, $20 non-members; Pre-registration required

Gaelic Games

  • When: July 25 through 28
  • Where: Greater Chester Valley Assoc Soccer, 137 Line Rd, Malvern
  • Why Go: Experience true ancient sports of Ireland, along with food, dancing and music. No Irish heritage or experience required. 
  • Cost: Open to the public. Admission is free on Thursday and Saturday

Photography Gallery Exhibit

  • When: July 26 through August 24
  • Where: Beauty Art Gallery, 3857 Providence Rd., Suite 200 in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: View Michael Kane's Photography at his art exhibit of Philadelphia cityscapes, shore scenes and other local photography shots. 
  • Cost: Free
Diabetes Clinic
  • When: Tuesday, August 6, at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Giant Food Store, 950 Baltimore Pike in Springfield
  • Why Go: A nutritionist will be on hand for advice and lecture, along with a question and answer session. 
  • Cost: Free, seating is limited, registration required
Glen Providence Park Concert
  • When: Saturday, July 27, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Rain Date: July 28
  • Where: Glen Providence Park, off of West Street in Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy the tunes of the Obsoleets and Me3, which will perform Eclectic American music with three-part harmonies. 
  • Cost: Free

Fiddler on the Roof

  • When: August 2, 3, 9, 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
  • Where: Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue in Drexel Hill
  • Why Go: Check out this two and a half hour classic story of Tevye, a father who is trying to hold onto his family and traditions as the world changes around him. Recommended for ages 10 and up.
  • Cost: $10 to $13
