Festival of Lights, Bazaar of All Nations Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this holiday weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Santa Claus will be busy this weekend as he helps with kicking off the holiday season. The documentary "Bazaar of All Nations" will hold a showing and in case you didn't eat enough turkey, how about a discount on frozen yogurt.

Santa's Arrival in Media

  • When: Friday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m.
  • Where: Delaware County Courthouse
  • Why Go: Live entertainment, the Phillie Phantic and Santa Claus will parade down State Street in Media and turn on the 200,000 Christmas lightbulbs, signaling the beginning of the Christmas season.
Tree Lighting at Rose Tree Park
  • When: Saturday, Nov. 30, at 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Rd, Upper Providence
  • Why Go: The Springton Lake Middle School Chorus will perform and the more than 75 trees and displays will be illuminated with Santa's help. The Festival of Lights will be open every evening from 5:30 to 9 p.m. through Jan. 4. 
  • Cost: Free
Turkey-Buster Ride
  • When: Friday, Nov. 29, at 9 a.m.
  • Where: Inner Drive Fitness, 210 S. Newtown Street Road in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Work off that turkey at this 90-minute combined cycling and strength workout specially designed to burn off those excess Thanksgiving calories.
  • Cost: Free to anyone who brings a donation of non-perishable food, which will be donated to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Food Bank in Broomall.

Frozen Yogurt Black Friday Discount

  • When: Friday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m.
  • Where: Menchie's, Lawrence Park Shopping Center, 1991 Sproul Road, Broomall 
  • Why Go: Take a break from Black Friday shopping and grab some frozen yogurt. Buy one yogurt/topping mix and get one half off. 

"Bazaar of All Nations" Showing

  • When: Saturday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Vinyl Revival, 35-37 N. Lansdowne Ave., Lansdowne
  • Why Go: Watch the documentary that chronicles the history of the Bazaar, a beloved Delaware County landmark, and the screenings coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Bazaar’s closing in December 1993.
  • Cost: Adult-$8, students-$5
Santa and Christmasland Arrive at Linvilla Orchards
  • When: Sunday, Dec. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in Decemebr
  • Where: Linvilla Orchards, 137 West Knowlton Road, Media 
  • Why Go: Visit the Christmasland display and see the animals dressed head to hoof in their winter coats. Shop for wreaths, garland and poinsettias and share your Christmas wish list with Santa. Remember to bring your camera.
