Johnny Appleseed Fest, 5K, Peace Day Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Head to Linvilla Orchards this weekend for Johnny Appleseed Fest and check out the live music, crafts and Pumpkinland too of course. Stop for a moment this weekend and observe the International Day of Peace. Everyone could use a deep breath and some peace and love this weekend. You can also run a 5K, learn about beekeeping or enjoy a Colonial dinner.

Linvilla's Johnny Appleseed Arts & Music Festival

  • When: Sept. 21-22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Linvilla Orchards, 137 W. Knowlton Road in Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy family-friendly live bands and browse the wide variety of jewelry, woodcrafts, photography and artists tables. The kids will have fun in Pumpkinland with hayrides, train rides, face painting and pony rides. Find the full weekend schedule here

International Day of Peace

  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21, all day, beginning at 11:45 a.m.
  • Where: Plum Street Mall in Media 
  • Why Go: The Day of Peace will begin with a moment of silence and T'ai Chi Chih Meditation. Then enjoy drumming, a children's choir and merchandise tables. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. enjoy a Didgeridoo Meditation, Tibetan dancers, poems, stories and more. 
Talk Institute 5K Trail Run and 1-Mile Walk
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: 395 Bishop Hollow Road, Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Run or walk across the gorgeous trails and property of the Garrett Williamson Foundation to benefit the TALK Institute and School, a private school for children with autism and other severe speech and language disorders in Newtown Square.
Thomas Massey House Colonial Dinner
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.
  • Where: Thomas Massey House, 473 Lawrence Road, Broomall
  • Why Go: Enjoy a five course traditional fall menu, prepared on an open hearth and presented by colonial clad servers. Then take a tour of the 17th Century historic setting. 
  • Cost: $25 per person, space is limited. 
Beekeeping Basics
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum
  • Why Go: Get hands-on instruction about fall hive maintenance, how to track the colony’s progress through the season, and prepare the hive for the winter. All equipment provided. Participants will interact directly with the bees, so please take any necessary precautions.
  • Cost: Pre-registration required; $30 members, $35 non-members.

Efforts 4 Ellie Black and White Party

  • When:  Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
  • Where: St. Kevin's Community Center, Springfield 
  • Why Go: The 2nd Annual Efforts 4 Ellie will raise money for Glycogen Storage Disease 1b, a rare liver disease which affects less than 100 people in the U.S. Enjoy live entertainment and food and drinks while benefitting a good cause. 
  • Cost: $40 for adults and $25 for kids
Village Renaissance Faire

  • Why Go: Enjoy lots of interesting events at this faire, including horseback jousting, sciencetelling, a harpist, a petting zoon, human chess, live music, archery, juggling, crafts, games and more
  • Cost: Adults for $5. Children under 5 are free
