Newtown Tree Lighting, Holiday Dance, Tea, Craft Fair Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of holiday happenings this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Santa Claus will be busy again this weekend as he tries again to light the Newtown Square tree and meet with the good boys and girls. Take in the Nutcracker Ballet, visit Santa's Village in Media, shop at a craft fair or attend O'Hara's Family Christmas.

Rescheduled Tree Lighting in Newtown

  • When: Sunday Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. 
  • Where: St. Albans Circle in Newtown Square.
  • Why Go: Santa Claus will arrive by fire engine with candy canes, dancers will perform and the tree will be lit with thousands of lights. Ring in the unofficial start to the holiday season and bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate too. 
Santa Claus Visits Marple
  • When: Dec. 15 at noon and Dec. 17 and 19 at 5:15 p.m.
  • Where: Locations vary, find details here
  • Why Go:  The Broomall Fire Company will be escorting Santa Claus through the streets of Marple Township to help ring in the Christmas season. Santa’s elves will be passing out candy canes to those children that meet Santa at the curb when he passes by. 
O'Hara Family Christmas
  • When: Sunday, Dec. 15 at 5 p.m.
  • Where: Cardinal O'Hara High School, 1701 S. Sproul Road, Springfield
  • Why Go: Bring your family and join the O'Hara family as they continue their Christmas tradition of mass at 5 p.m., followed by a parade at 6:15 p.m. and a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Free
Annual Holiday Dance
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Hunting Hills Mansion at Ridley Creek State Park
  • Why Go: The Friends of Ridley Creek State Park will hold its Annual Holiday Dance. The public is welcome to enjoy the open bar of beer and wine, food and plenty of holiday cheer. 
  • Cost: Tickets $30 for members, $40 for non-members
Historical Society Craft Fair
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 14 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: Sidewalk in front of Newtown Square Hardware
  • Why Go: The Newtown Historical Society will sell lighted historical replicas of local historical sites and other gifts.
  • Cost: Credit cards accepted
Nutcracker Ballet
  • When: Friday, Dec. 13 through 15 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Neumann University, Meagher Theatre in Aston
  • Why Go: The International Ballet Classique (IBC) celebrates the holidays with its performance of Nutcracker Ballet. The enchanting story of Clara's adventures with her Nutcracker doll, the Rat King and the Sugar Plum Fairy is a superb visual feast that can't be missed. 
  • Cost: Ticket $20, seniors and students discounted at $16. Find more ticket information here. 

Visit Santa's Village

  • Why Go: Visit Santa at his Village and don't forget to bring a camera.

Victorian Holiday Tea and Tour 
  • When: Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.
  • Where: 116 N. Lemon Street in Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy a Victorian Holiday Tea and Tour of one of Media's decorated Victorian homes. All proceeds to benefit 1st United Methodist Church Outreach Programs.
  • Cost: Tickets $15
