It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of events happenings this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Learn about history, give a day of community service, sign up for lacrosse, listen to live music or take your pet on an adventure.

MLK Day of Service Pieces of Peace

  • When: Monday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Where: Boys & Girls Club of Chester/Crozer-Chester Medical Center
  • Why Go: The MLK Commemorative Committee of Chester & Vicinity invites you to a service-focused event with fun activities for all ages, including a mural project, creation of care packages for those in need in Delco, arts and crafts, educational sessions, physical therapy clinic, with health and wellness resources, and lots of community spirit. Activities will move to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center at 1 p.m. for a ceremonial wreath laying at Old Main where Dr. Martin Luther King studied when he was in the Crozer Theological Seminary.

Friday History Forum

Find out what's happening in Marple Newtownwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • When: Friday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m.
  • Where: Middletown Free Library, 21 N. Pennell Rd. Lima
  • Why Go: Each month a volunteer speaker from the Delaware County community and beyond will give a lecture on any historical topic they are passionate about and wish to share with the group. This month, the topic will be "The Last Days Of Civil War Notables," by Dr. Sidney Copel.
  • Cost: Free

Main Line Quilt Guild 

  • When: Friday, Jan. 17 at 9:45 a.m.
  • Where: Tredyffrin Public Library, 582 Upper Gulph Road, Strafford
  • Why Go: This quilting program is designed to think about color in quilts and how to use the 3-in-1 color tool to help explore the color wheel. For quilters of all levels and even non-quilters.
  • Cost: Open to the public
Youth Lacrosse Registration 
  • When: Saturday, Jan. 18 at 9 a.m.
  • Where: Media Youth Center, Youth Way and Monroe Street, Media
  • Why Go: Walk in registration for the 2014 Spring season. Boys and girls, grades 1-8. Uniform sizing for new players. Coaches will available to answer questions.
Peter Pan
  • When: Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m.
  • Where: Hedgerow Theatre, 64 Rose Valley Road, Rose Valley
  • Why Go: You’ll meet the characters from J.M. Barrie’s famous adventure, plus you’ll get to be part of this energetic and creative play, by playing some of the roles, such as the pirates and the Lost Boys.
  • Cost: $10 
George's After Dark Concert
  • When: Saturday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m.
  • Where: St. George’s Episcopal Church, West Ardmore Avenue at Darby Road, Ardmore
  • Why Go: The featured performer is Greg Burton, a local artist whose original songs are an eclectic blend of styles including acoustic rock, pop, and folk. 
  • Cost: $10
Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo
  • When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 17-19
  • Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue, Oaks
  • Why Go: This expo is designed to educate and entertain the public about the wonderful world of pets. Attendees are permitted to bring well behaved pets to the expo.
  • Cost: $12 for adults, $5 children (ages 11 and under), 3 and under are admitted free.
