A write-in candidate in Tuesday’s primary will appear in the race for 2nd Ward commissioner in November.
Marple Township's 2nd Ward will see a former commissioner on the ballot in November's Election. Democrat John Butler received 19 write-in votes in Tuesday's Primary Election, according to the Delaware County Daily Times, and 10 votes are required and all will need to be certified by the Delaware County Board of Elections. Butler was a commissioner for eight years before losing to Jan Ceton in 2009. "I didn’t decide to mount the write-in until noon on Primary Day," Butler told the Delco Times. "I don’t like the lack of transparency and the fact the board never answers questions during the public forum."

AAA predicts about 1 percent fewer Americans than last year will travel for the holiday.
Projections for Memorial Day weekend travel call for roughly the same volume of Philadelphia-area traffic as last year's holiday, while the nation as a whole is expected to travel a bit less, according to a AAA study released Wednesday. The organization estimates 34.8 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home at some point Thursday through Monday. Last year, it was 35.1 million. In the Philadelphia area, the figure is 404,000 travelers, about the same as last year. Though bridge gridlock may suggest otherwise, only 22 percent of Philadelphia-area residents who travel this weekend are expected to be headed to the shore, according to AAA. About 62 percent of survey respondents said gas prices wouldn't affect their plans. …
