Newtown Square Resident Honored For Distinguished Service at Widener University

Dennis O’Shea, of Newtown Square, was awarded the William David Eckard Jr. Award for Distinguished Service at Widener University.

CHESTER–Dennis O’Shea, of Newtown Square, a grounds foreman at Widener University, was awarded the William David Eckard Jr. Award for Distinguished Service in recognition of his hard work and longtime commitment to the university. The Eckard Award was established by William David Eckard III, longtime vice president of administration and finance at Widener University and a 1966 graduate of Pennsylvania Military College. He created the award, a $3,000 cash grant, in memory of his father to help promote and reward excellence at Widener. Recipients must work for Widener on a full-time basis for at least ten years and consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of service. O’Shea has served Widener for 32 years, as grounds foreman in the …

MEDIA–This beagle blend, named Misti, loves to play outside. She's an adult but still has plenty of energy and a unique personality. She's a "people" dog and would love to be someone's companion. Misti is available for adoption at the Delco SPCA and she is part of a Seniors Saving Seniors discount. If Misti is adopted by someone over the age of 55, her adoption fee is just $55.50. UPDATE: Dogs Shaylee and Vicky, recently featured on Patch, have been adopted. But Cat Waffles is still waiting for her forever home. Wanted: Books For Newtown Library Book Sale

The Friends of Newtown Public Library is now collecting books for its August Book Sale.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Friends of Newtown Public Library is collecting books for its August 21-25 Book Sale. Collection bins for your books, movies, and music are located at the produce entrance at the Acme in Newtown Square and at Burlap and Bean.    Please bring large donations to 291 Aronimink Drive in Newtown Square.  There is no need to call; simply leave donations in garage or front porch if garage door is closed. Lower Delco Wildcats Head To National Jr. Olympics

This will be the third consecutive year the Lower Delco Lady Wildcats Head to the National Junior Olympics.

This will be the third year in a row that the Lower Delco Lady Wildcats are going to the National Junior Olympics. This year, the sixth-grade team came in second place in the region, making them eligible for Nationals in July, in Franklin, TN. Team members include Allison Tomasetti, Catherine Esbenshade ,Maria Koblish, Maddy Sorokanych, Halle Robinson, Katie Detwiler, Kate Masciantonio, Sam MacDonald, Megan Ricker, Nicole Barnes, and Molly Masciantonio. Many members from this team have played together for the last three years, with a few wonderful new additions.

Marple Hosts Free Shred Fest Saturday

Marple Township is offering its residents a day to shred personal documents in a safe manner on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

BROOMALL–Marple Township is offering its residents a free Shred Fest event on Saturday morning to shred personal and confidential documents in a safe manner. Residents can take up to four boxes of personal documents to be destroyed from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Though Shred Fest is open to the entire community, the township is discouraging businesses. The event will take place at the Old Marple School yard located off of West Chester Pike & N. Malin Rd. in Broomall. Wiggins Shredding will be the company shredding the documents on Saturday.
