Newtown Rings In New Year With Reduced Tax Increase From 2011 Prelim Budget
Newtown Township passed its 2011 budget with a 9 percent tax increase, a 0.5 percent decrease from its initial 9.5 percent.
Newtown Square–Down 0.5 percent from its initially proposed 9.5 percent, Newtown Supervisors passed its 2011 budget–just hours to spare before deadline–with a 9 percent tax increase at a special re-convened budget meeting Dec. 31. With the new 9 percent tax increase number, the average homeowner in Newtown Square–assessed at $256,940–will look to pay $51.75 more per year in municipal taxes. At the proposed 9.5 percent, the average homeowner would have paid $54.62 more per year. In other words, Jim Sheldrake, township manager, said the average homeowner is looking to pay approximately $1 per week or $0.14 per day with the 9 percent tax hike.
