The Marple Newtown School Board voted 7-1 at Tuesday night’s meeting in favor of the final budget with a 0 percent tax increase.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–As expected, Marple Newtown School Board officials approved the 2012-13 general fund budget for the district in the amount of $68.1 million, which is an approximately $1 million decrease from the preliminary budget. The budget included a tax increase of *0 percent. Last month, the board approved a reduction of its preliminary 2012-13 tax increase from 2.67 percent down to 0.62. The board voted 7-1 Tuesday night to pass the budget with School Board Vice President Nancy Galbraith holding the lone nay. School Board member Jamie Mariano was not present. Marple Newtown School Board members proposed to reduce the real estate school tax increase from 2.67 percent to a 0.62 percent tax increase in the 2012-13 proposed final budget without cutting any position or programs in the district.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–Since its approval in January, Marple Newtown School Board officials moved to approve a reduction of its preliminary 2012-13 tax increase from 2.67 percent to *0.62 percent next year at their next public meeting. A presentation was made before school board members at a Budget & Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday night, where Business Administrator Joe Driscoll shared the 2012-13 proposed final budget of $68,108,000, an approximate $1 million decrease from the preliminary budget. NEWTOWN SQUARE–At the Marple Newtown Board of School Directors' Budget and Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday night, Business Administrator Joseph Driscoll presented the preliminary 2012-13 district budget to the board, mentioning at several points that what he was trying to build was a "worst-case scenario budget." In 2012-13, the preliminary budget projects a level budget overall, Driscoll said. Retirement rate is one aspect of the budget that will change this year.
