After fuel prices rose sharply in July, AAA releases outlook for August.
AAA released its weekly fuel gauge report last week, showing a sharp increase in gas prices through the month of July and predicting that prices will remain high through Labor Day. According to AAA numbers, national gas prices increased 5.1 percent, or 17 cents a gallon, over the course of July, to close out at $3.50 a gallon. That's the first monthly increase since March and the largest increase for July since at least 2000, when AAA began keeping records. If it seems like prices had been low this summer, they were. Fuel costs had decreased three months in a row before falling to a summertime low of $3.326 on July 2. However, prices rose quickly to close out the month at the national average of $3.50, $3.66 in the Philadelphia region. In …

AAA says prices are the lowest they've been since January.
Gas prices have fallen below $3.50 a gallon for the first time since January, AAA Mid-Atlantic reported this week. “Not since late-January of this year have we seen gas prices in the Philadelphia area below the $3.50 per gallon mark,” said Jenny M. Robinson, manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “Now that crude oil has settled in the $80 range, down from a triple digit highs this spring, gas prices are shifting downward as well. Analysts believe the recent drop in prices will likely last through the summer months and could potentially drop to the $3 to $3.25 per gallon range in some areas.” According to the release, the average price for gas in the Philadelphia region fell six cents last week, following a drop of …

1 in 10 residents of the five-county area are expected to travel, says AAA.
Will you be sticking around the Marple Newtown area for the annual Marple Memorial Post's Memorial Day Parade on Monday? No? You may want to reconsider. AAA-Mid Atlantic estimates that 400,000 residents of the five-county area will be traveling this Memorial Day Weekend, despite gas prices peaking near $4 a gallon. The agency defines traveling as journeys of 50 miles of greater. Of that figure, 88 percent plan to drive to their destination, roughly the same number as last year, says AAA. “Despite near-record-high gas prices this spring, Philadelphia area residents are ready to travel to welcome the summer season this Memorial Day holiday weekend,” said Jenny M. Robinson, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “…

Prices could hit $4.25 per gallon in the area.
Feeling a pinch at the pump lately? Brace yourself: the worst may be yet to come. That's the message today from the American Automobile Assocation (AAA), which said gas prices could hit $4.25 per gallon in the greater Philadelphia area during the two-month period from March 15 to May 15. “Analysts anticipate Pennsylvania will be the hot spot for gasoline prices in the coming weeks and months,” said Jenny M. Robinson, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “The next 60 days will prove extremely volatile for gas prices in the state, following the idling of two Philadelphia area refineries in recent weeks and the threat of another closure this summer. This does not bode well for motorists who have already had to deal…

Motor club predicts new holiday gas-price high.
The holidays may be slow for many businesses, but for AAA and travelers, this is peak season. In its Christmas forecast, AAA Mid-Atlantic reports new highs in gases prices for Philadelphia holiday travel, while the agency anticipates it will come to the aid of approximately 63,000 stranded motorists throughout its territory (NJ, DE, PA, MD, DC, VA) during the year-end holiday period. Though pump prices have declined recently, motorists will be met with the highest gas prices ever during the year-end holiday season. AAA reports it to hang around $3.25 per gallon, a new holiday high. With an estimate that 91 percent of all holiday travelers will go by car in the next few weeks, about 912,000 Philadelphia area residents will fuel up in the …

This weekend 42.5 million are predicted to travel.
Bucking trends from previous years, increased travel is predicted for this Thanksgiving weekend, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. In a release, the travel organization said 42.5 million people are expected to hit the road from Wednesday through Sunday. "Driving AAA’s projected increase in the number of Thanksgiving travelers is pent-up demand from Americans who may have foregone holiday travel the last three years," said Jenny M. Robinson, a spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic. "As consumers weigh the fear of economic uncertainty and the desire to create lasting family memories this holiday, more Americans are expected to choose family and friends over frugality." The agency predicts: On top of increased travel compared to recent Thanksgivings…
