Al Meltzer, a local legendary sportscaster, stopped by Country Squire Diner in Broomall on Jan. 7 for a book signing event.
BROOMALL–Newtown Square resident and legendary sports broadcaster Al Meltzer–or popularly known as "Big Al"–stopped by Country Squire Diner in Broomall on Saturday, Jan. 7, for a book signing event. Big Al was the voice for Philadelphia sports on WFIL Radio, WPHL-TV, Channel 17, WCAU-TV, Channel 3, and became a 10-time Emmy winner. Meltzer was joined by co-author Robert S. Lyons Jr. on Saturday for their book "Fifty Years of Adventures in Sports Broadcasting." Al Meltzer, of Newtown Square, will be signing copies of his book "50 Years of Adventures in Sports Broadcasting" at Country Squire Diner in Broomall from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 7.
BROOMALL–Al Meltzer, or also known as "Big Al" and one of the legendary Philadelphia sportscasters in the area, will stop by Country Squire Diner Saturday, Jan. 7, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to sign copies of his recently released book 50 Years of Adventures in Sports Broadcasting. Meltzer, a resident of Newtown Square, was the sports director at KYW-TV 3 and later on NBC 10 until 1998. The diner, located at 2560 West Chester Pike in Broomall, was allegedly where it all began. According to the diner, Meltzer would ofen come into the diner with pen in hand writing notes for his book. Meltzer recently had a book signing in Radnor, where he met and greeted fans. VILLANOVA–Local sports legend and Newtown Township resident Al Meltzer met his neighbors for some reminiscing and a book signing on Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Radnor Valley Country Club. A 10-time Emmy Award winner, Meltzer signed copies of his new memoir: Big Al: Fifty Years of Adventures in Sports Broadcasting, published by Philadelphia’s Camino Books. The memoir was released in October of this year and co-authored by Robert S. Lyons, who covered professional and college sports for the Associated Press for more than 40 years.
