The Way We Work: Super Commuters Go the Distance for Their Careers

For Labor Day, Patch examines why some professionals are willing to travel hundreds of miles every week for work.

At 5 a.m. three days a week, Mark Schofield wakes up in his home in Washington, D.C., to prepare for his commute—to Philadelphia.   By 6:15 a.m., he grabs a cup of coffee from the Starbucks in Washington’s Union Station. “The coffee there is stronger” than on Amtrak train No. 130, he says.   It’s no wonder he needs a potent blast of caffeine: Schofield spends more than 15 hours riding each week to Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. From there he catches a local train to his job at Haverford College in Delaware County. The commute adds roughly two and a half hours and 140 miles onto both ends of a 9-to-5 workday. Update: Winter Weather Advisory Canceled For Dec. 16 Snowfall

The National Weather Service canceled its winter weather advisory for the area's first storm Dec. 16, which caused local traffic delays in some areas.

Broomall–Update: The National Weather Service canceled their winter weather advisory as of late in the evening Dec. 16.  The weather for the rest of Dec. 17 looks clear. According to the National Weather Service, the day will be mostly sunny with a high of 34. Just before 3 p.m. Thursday, the local roads were already dusted with a light covering of snow. The National Weather Service announced a winter weather advisory for the area around 1:40 p.m. Dec. 16. In its advisory the National Weather Service states, "The greatest impact will be during the afternoon and evening rush-hour commute." Due to the recent drop in temperature, the cold roads may cause even the smallest snowfall to produce slippery conditions, said the weather service. …
