First US Secretary of Homeland Security, former Pa. Governor and Veteran Tom Ridge speaks on moving freedom forward.
Delaware County's Veterans Memorial in Newtown Square was dedicated and honored in a ceremony Saturday amongst hundreds of people. Several people spoke and were thanked during the ceremony including former Pa. Gov. Tom Ridge, Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett, U.S. Congressman Pat Meehan, Vice Chairman of Delaware County Council Mario Civera, DVCMA Founding Member Linda Houldin and landowner and major donor Claude de Botton. The Delaware County Veterans Memorial is located off of West Chester Pike/Route 3 and Alice Grim Blvd. in Newtown Square, Edgmont Township.

Azie Southeast, which recently opened in September in Edgmont Square Shopping Center, has closed.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–Azie Southeast, which opened its doors in Edgmont Square Shopping Center just this September, is now closed. Win Signature Restaurants also owns and operates Azie in Media and Villanova, as well as Mixx in Villanova, Teikoku in Newtown Square and Mikado Thai Pepper in Ardmore. The new sports-themed restaurant will host a grand opening on Jan. 12.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–Double Edge Sports Grille, located at the former Winner's Circle in Marville Shopping Center in Edgmont Township, is open for business. The new restaurant opened the Wednesday before Thanksgiving but will host its grand opening celebration on Jan. 12. Owner and Manager Chris Knight says they wanted to wait until after the holidays to truly celebrate the opening. Four new owners, from both Delaware and Chester counties, took over the sports-themed bar and grille and took about three weeks to renovate and upgrade the facility. There is new flooring and paint throughout the restaurant, the bathrooms were completely renovated, new booth seating was added but the sport's decor remains a staple with walls of flat screen TVs, …

A body was found in the vicinity of recent bear sightings, but there is not a connection.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–Yes, there were reports in late October of bear sightings in the area of Delchester Road and Ridley Creek State Park. Yes, police responded on Nov. 8 to a report of a body found at Edgmont Country Club, which is located between Delchester Road and the state park. No—the two news items are not related. Pennsylvania State Police spokesperson Rosemary McGuire told Patch Monday that the country club case was a natural death. A Pennsylvania Game Commission official reached by phone Monday said he had not received any recent reports of bears in the area.

The township of Edgmont spells its name one way, while the post office in that township spells it another way. Which spelling do you prefer?
NEWTOWN SQUARE–Marple Newtown Patch's neighbor spells its name two different ways–Edgmont and Edgemont, but which is the correct spelling? Local Editor Courtney Elko of Media Patch breaks the issue down on the spelling of the township's name and how both may be correct. She states, "The township was incorporated in 1687 and officially was spelled Edgmont but not before it went through a few other spelling variations of Edgemont and Edgmond.
