Russell Fourth Graders Among Five PA Social Studies Classes to Participate in Tech Geography Project

Lindsay Kiefer's fourth-grade class participated with four other commonwealth of Pennsylvania schools to participated in a geography project through video conferencing.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Lindsay Kiefer's fourth-grade class at Russell Elementary School participated in a memorable geography project that will go down in history–literally. Among the estimated 275 applicants who submitted proposals for the "Where in PA?" social studies project facilitated by the University of Pennsylvania’s Information Systems and Computing central IT organization's Mid-Atlantic Gigapop in Philadelphia for Internet2 (MAGPI), Kiefer's fourth-grade class was chosen to participate in the project among four other elementary schools in Pennsylvania. What an amazing experience for this class. My son is in Ms. Kiefer's class and really enjoys all the exposure to the different elements of teaching. We need more teachers like this to plant the seeds of learning and watch them grow. Thank you for being a great teacher.   more ›

From Trash to Treasure: A Recyclable "Starry Night"

A dedication ceremony was held for the recently completed recyclable mural in Worrall Elementary School's front lobby Feb. 8.

BROOMALL–Worrall Elementary School can truly attest to the phrase, "one man's trash is another man's treasure," with their latest "going green" initiative at the school involving, well, trash. From drink caps to soda can tabs, students and staff at the school participated in a recycling collection program that started in the fall. Vicki Israel, the school art teacher, was rather inspired by the collected items–from pickle jar caps to Gatorade caps and glue bottle tops–which began the five-month project. Israel's idea: to create a mural replicating Vincent Van Gogh's renowned "Starry Night" painting entirely out of the recycled materials.
