Congratulations to Erin Holvoet. She is the winner of this week’s Patch Picture of the Week contest with her fireworks picture. Her picture of a boy watching fireworks was a crowd favorite. Thanks to everyone who submitted your great pictures. A couple people added photos to our voting story. BROOMALL–Members of the Broomall Fire Co. helped prep and also continued the July 4th celebrations after the Marple Newtown Fourth of July Parade and Firecracker 5K.

There were 414 runners who competed in the third annual Fourth of July Firecracker 5K in Broomall.
BROOMALL–Despite the heat, more than 400 runners came out to the Marple Newtown Firecracker 5K on July 4th. The third annual race led the annual Marple Newtown Fourth of July Parade. The race brought out runners of all ages. Read below to find out who placed in the top three for each category. BROOMALL–The blazing sun may not have stopped for Marple Newtown's annual Fourth of July Parade and Firecracker 5K, but traffic certainly did after a large portion of the westbound lanes on West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 were shutdown for Wednesday morning's festivities. While many people were sleeping in on their day off, 494 runners and a crowd of spectators, turned out for the Third Annual Firecracker 5K. The record-setting amount of participants took off around 9:30 a.m., and runners of all ages crossed the finish line over the next hour. James Belfatto, 16, won the 3.1-mile race with a time of 16:54 and 29-year-old Aaron Skolnik finished second in 17:03. The parade followed the 5K and never lulled with around 90 minutes of lively …

Runners can still participate in the race and can register before the Fourth of July Firecracker 5K race today. The parade begins immediately after the race at 10 a.m.
BROOMALL–The third annual Firecracker 5K–sponsored by the Marple Newtown Fourth of July Parade Committee, Marple Township Commissioners, and the Broomall Rotary Club–will be held on July 4th, Wednesday, in conjunction with the Fourth of July Parade in town. Those who are still interested in running the race can register in person before the race at 8 a.m. Packets will also be available for pickup starting at 8 a.m. at the start/finish line off of N. Malin Rd. by the Broomall Fire Co. fire station. Registration fees are now $20 for ages 17 and under; $25 for adults; and $65 for a family (six maximum/three shirts). The race will begin at 9:25 a.m. and all runners must reach the turnaround point at Bryn Mawr Avenue in Newtown Square by 10 a.m…

Congratulations to Colleen Wickstrum. She is the winner of this week’s Patch Picture of the Week contest with her patriotic picture of a boy waving a small flag.
