NEWTOWN SQUARE–A special appearance was made by St. Nick in December at St. Anastasia School in Newtown Square. St. Annies hosted a lunch with Santa in December for the children in the community to meet and greet the jolly old guy.

Volunteers Deck the Halls of Fair Acres

A group of volunteers brightened the halls of Delaware County's skilled care facility recently.

MIDDLETOWN–A group of four creative volunteers took time out of their hectic holiday schedules recently to decorate Christmas trees, brightening the buildings of Fair Acres, Delaware County’s skilled care facility in Middletown. For the past eight years, Pat Goodall and Clair Hagan of Springfield, have enlisted their art group, the Brandywine Decorative Painters, to craft ornaments to be displayed on Christmas trees in the lobbies of numerous Fair Acres buildings. Goodall and Hagan are both retired teachers who have been involved at Fair Acres. The Brandywine Decorative Painters is a Tri-State organization that meets once a month to discuss, craft and prepare for various outreach projects they volunteer for each year. Members vote on a …

AAA Reports Highest Annual Gas Prices; Anticipates Many Holiday Rescues

Motor club predicts new holiday gas-price high.

The holidays may be slow for many businesses, but for AAA and travelers, this is peak season. In its Christmas forecast, AAA Mid-Atlantic reports new highs in gases prices for Philadelphia holiday travel, while the agency anticipates it will come to the aid of approximately 63,000 stranded motorists throughout its territory (NJ, DE, PA, MD, DC, VA) during the year-end holiday period. Though pump prices have declined recently, motorists will be met with the highest gas prices ever during the year-end holiday season. AAA reports it to hang around $3.25 per gallon, a new holiday high. With an estimate that 91 percent of all holiday travelers will go by car in the next few weeks, about 912,000 Philadelphia area residents will fuel up in the …

Episcopal Academy Third Graders Share Christmas Stories

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Third graders from Paulette Petrie's class at Episcopal Academy's Lower School created a video of snippets, sharing Christmas and holiday stories, memories and experiences. The students narrated their own snippets as well as illustrated their own story to go along with their snippet.

What’s Closed and Open this Christmas Holiday

Here’s a rundown of the closings around town.

This year Christmas Eve and Christmas Day fall on a weekend, which affects the regular hours of government offices, as well as local businesses. Government buildings are normally closed on the weekends anyway, however, the county will observe the holiday on Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26, and will be closed then as well. In the meantime, while most businesses are closed on Christmas Day, some have limited hours on Christmas Eve. There are several stores open for your last-minute gift shopping, or meal-preparation needs. If you are looking for a quick getaway from the holiday chaos, the movie theatres are open, and are rolling out several new releases the last week of the year.
