Letter to the Editor: Residents of Newtown Square Need To Wake Up

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Newtown Square resident Michael Wozniak on the potential zoning changes in Newtown Township.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Newtown Square resident Michael Wozniak. Apathy is not working. By not attending meetings and speaking up we have created a community where power and control reside in the hands of a few. At the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors Meeting on Monday, November26th, we were informed that our Police Chief was being paid off to keep his mouth shut regarding the details of his being terminated. This did not appear to shock anyone...business as usual in the lowly depths of Newtown Square politics. If we do not get involved soon, it may be too late. I do not have any answers. I only recently became involved in township matters when they attempted to shove a zoning change down my throat. We have…

Letter to the Editor: The CR Zoning Ordinance Had Many Defects

Michael Wozniak, a Newtown Square resident, writes a letter to the editor on the CR Zoning Ordinance issue in town.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by a Newtown Square resident: On the evening of November 13th, over 200 residents gathered at the Newtown Township Supervisors meeting. They spoke clearly, passionately and forcefully to the supervisors and their goal was achieved. There will be no hearing on November 26th regardingthe proposed CR Commercial Residential Ordinance in its original form. The plan is to send the document back to planning and, with input from the residents, to improve upon it. The CR Zoning Ordinance as it was proposed had many defects. It intruded upon beautiful residential neighborhoods. It required commercial buildings to contain a residential feature such as retail shops on the ground floor and apartments on …

Mr. Wozniak, My neighbor found this comment above from an article dated September 29,2012(somerset/terrazza), One piece of advise I was given, watch out for the GOP leader mike gillin and joe Catania, they control local law enforcement, and you see what happened to chief Anderson. So be careful, this may get real nasty, If I were a resident, I would call the FBI, and the attorney generals office(…   more ›

Letter to the Editor: From Thankless to Thank You

Marple Newtown School Board member John McDevitt reflects on his time serving on the school board during the high school and community center renovations projects.

When I first thought about running for the school board, the one word always mentioned to me in return was "thankless"–that being a member of the school board was a thankless job. After two plus years on the board understanding and living the commitment, I have come to find the experience very rewarding. I have met a whole lot of people from political leaders, board members, teachers and administrators, committed to the future of this community: it’s youth. When difficult times swept this country in late 2008, the district was committed to the high school renovation and addition project which meant this debt service had to be absorbed into the budget at the worst possible time in generations. Yet, virtually no one ever complained to me in …

Save And Protect The Wyola School

Jan Elston, of Newtown Square, submits a Letter to the Editor about saving and restoring the Wyola School in Newtown Township.

I am writing this letter as a long-time activist in the often lonely campaign to save the old homes and other historic structures in Newtown Township, dating from the 1600s to early 1900s. These mostly beautiful buildings and the people who built them are the ones who laid out and planned the roads, boundaries, built the schools, churches and mills, fought in the wars and endured the hard times that made us what we are today. The beautiful farms that made up most of the landscape in the earlier years have slowly been replaced by new homes and business. Very shortly, they'll be completely gone. Scattered here and there amidst all the progress are nearly 100 buildings, mostly old houses, churches, schools, mills and so forth. With the help …
