On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked Marple Newtown High School as the #1096 high school in the country. In Pennsylvania, Julia R. Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School in Philadelphia received the highest ranking of #56. Locally, Conestoga High School in Berwyn was ranked #124, Harriton High School #219, Radnor High School #255, Strath Haven High School #291, Lower Merion High School #321, Penncrest #549, Springfield High School #648, and Haverford High School #742. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. The Marple Newtown High School junior was an alternate for the 2013 World Women’s Championships.
Sarah Anderson, a junior at Marple Newtown High School, was asked to be an alternate for the 2013 World Women’s Championships after playing the team in the qualifying rounds of the 2013 USA Curling National Championships recently. Anderson accepted immediately. In Latvia, she participated in practices, assisted the team and absorbed everything she could from her curling idols, according to teamusa.org. “It was a real fun and eye-opening experience to go over there and just play against all these top teams of all ages,” Anderson told teamusa.org. U.S. News and World Report recently released its 2013 Best High Schools list. Several Philadelphia-area high schools—including Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Radnor High School in Radnor, Lower Merion High School in Lower Merion and Great Valley High School in Malvern—made the list. Marple Newtown High School did not rank within the "Best Of" list but did score well in the report's proficient in reading. The high school's Interact Club is among the top five organizations for American Cancer Society daffodil sales in Delaware County this year.
Marple Newtown High School Interact Club recently raised $2,358 in this year's Daffodil Days drive. The club held the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days to give hope to people facing cancer and save lives by supporting the program, Anna Deacon, public relations for the school district, said in a press release. The high school's Interact Club is among the top five organizations for daffodil sales in Delaware County this year, according to Deacon. The Daffodil Days program is a chance to fight back against cancer by raising funds and awareness to help beat the disease. The Marple Newtown School District recently approved a new principal for the high school.
After a national search the Marple Newtown Board of School Directors recently approved a new high school principal. Gregory Puckett was unanimously approved by the board as the new principal of Marple Newtown High School. He will officially take over the role on July 1. Puckett is a graduate of Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Secondary Education in Social Studies, a Masters of Educational Leadership from Widener University and he is currently enrolled in the Doctoral program at Widener University. He has been assistant principal and principal at Springfield Township High School since 2008.
