The State Police increased enforcement efforts between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
MEDIA–The Pennsylvania State Police in Troop K handled 45 crashes, with four being alcohol related, made 12 DUI arrests and issued 469 citations between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Troop K covers highways in Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery counties and numerous municipalities without police departments. During this time, extra efforts were made to ensure citizens could safely travel along the Commonwealth’s highways given the increased volume of traffic associated with the holiday. Through enforcement of motor vehicle laws, the Pennsylvania State Police attempted to reduce speeding, impaired driving and failure to use safety restraints. People around Newtown Square share their hopeful resolutions for the new year.
Newtown Square—With New Year's Eve fast approaching, many locals are just now starting to think about what resolutions they might make to themselves for a better 2011. Roughly half of the people interviewed hadn't gotten around to it yet—or weren't planning to make any at all. "Oh, I don't do that anymore," said a smiling Jerry Maher, a popular man at The Ale House. "I stopped disappointing myself years ago."
