The left turn lane already exists at the intersection but the traffic signal needed to be modified.
At the request of residents, the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors approved traffic signal modifications at Troop Farm Road and Route 252. Supervisor John Nawn said at the board's Monday meeting that the current closure of nearby Gradyville Road has caused traffic problems and a left turn signal was needed at the intersection. The left turn lane and traffic light already exist at the intersection but the traffic signal needed to be modified in order for the signal to have a left turn arrow. Nawn said the township's traffic engineer investigated the issue and determined it was warranted and presented a plan to PennDOT which was approved. The Act 537 Plan was submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection for approval.
The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution to submit the Act 537 Plan to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection at Monday's meeting. The township's plan will now seek DEP approval and then go on to the design phase. Supervisor Chairman Joseph Catania thanked township staff and Township Manager Michael Trio who spent a lot time getting to this point. "Hopefully it won't be too long before we get to the design phase and get some shovels in the ground," Catania said. Newtown Township officials will look for ways to improve the roadway.
The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously decided not the give up control of a public road that has been used by residents since the 1800s. A newer resident of Paper Mill Road, Scott Brehman, requested that the township vacate the public road. Brehman owns property on both sides of the road and has made efforts to deny access to the neighborhood's old roadway, which is located at the end of Paper Mill Road. The roadway, which runs through Newtown and Radnor townships, was once used in the early 1800s as a thruway for traffic from Skunk Hollow to Darby-Paoli Road, and has been closed to traffic since then. The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will take into consideration the request for the historic William Lewis house to opt-out of the Act 537 sewer hook-up during the design phase of the project.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–A request was made by the owners of the historic William Lewis house in Newtown Square to opt out of hooking up to the proposed public sewer system in the township's Act 537 Plan. The owners of the historic home, Rosario Scalia and Francesco D'Arro, presented to the Board of Supervisors at a special board meeting on Feb. 4, their request to have the William Lewis house opt out of the public sewer system proposed in the township Act 537 Plan. NEWTOWN SQUARE–Three Zoning Hearing Board resignations and two appointments were announced at Monday night's Newtown Township Board of Supervisors meeting. David DiPasqua resigned as chairman of the Newtown Township Zoning Hearing Board to become the board's solicitor, according to Supervisors Chairman Joe Catania. DiPasqua's term ends on Dec. 31, 2015. In addition, Zoning Hearing Board members Anne Stulpin and Richard Carpenter have submitted their resignations which were approved by the supervisors on Monday night. Stulpin's term ends on Dec. 31, 2013, while Carpenter's term ends on Dec. 31, 2014. NEWTOWN SQUARE–A decision was finally made at Monday night's Newtown Township Board of Supervisors meeting on the fate of the sewer system proposed in the Echo Valley section of Newtown Township. Supervisors unanimously approved to move forward with the Act 537 Sewage Facilities Plan that will include Echo Valley running on a gravity sewer system. James MacCombie, township sewer engineer on the project, orginally proposed the $25 million Act 537 Plan to have 112 Echo Valley homes serviced by a low-pressure sewer system and only a handful with a gravity sewer system. Newtown Township Board of Supervisors recently approved a waiver requested by the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association located in Newtown Square.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association's (DCVMA) received another waiver request on erosion and sedimentation, and building permit fees for the memorial located on West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 and Alice Grim Boulevard in Newtown Square. The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors gave the approval at the last supervisors meeting on Jan. 28. In October of last year, supervisors granted approval for another waiver request and determined that the township would waive any fees dependent on the third-party's contractor. NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Panera Bread proposed to come to the Newtown Square Shopping Center received unanimous approval from the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Monday night for a reallocation of sewer EDUs (equivalent dwelling units). The proposed Newtown Square Panera Bread will be located at the former Dressbarn site within the Newtown Square Shopping Center. According to Township Solicitor Richard Sokorai, the former Dressbarn had been allocated one EDU which was approximately 262.5 gallons per day.
