Newtown Township Swears In New Police Chief

Newtown Township officials swore in Chris Lunn as the township's newest police chief on Jan. 28.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–An official swearing-in ceremony was held on Monday night to swear in Newtown Township Police Department's new Police Chief Chris Lunn.  Lunn was sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Leon Hunter III and took oath on his mother's Bible. Lunn was joined by his wife Michele and daughter Coryn as well as a handful of other family members and relatives. Hunter said he has sworn in Lunn four times already and "looks forward to many more years of his service to the community." Hunter congratulated the Board of Supervisors for making a "very wise choice" on the appointment of Lunn as chief of police.  "He will represent our township very, very well–not only here in the township but as they meet with our townships and other …

Supervisors Approve New Ambulance Collections Service Contract

The one-year contract was awarded to Ambulance Reimbursement Systems, Inc.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the authorization to execute a ambulance collections service contract with Ambulance Reimbursement Systems, Inc. (ARS) on Monday night. According to Township Manager Mike Trio, the township received three bids which included ARS, Advanced Management Services, and Speclin Emergency Services Billing.  Not only did ARS have the lowest rate (6 percent), but the Newtown Square Fire Co. also recommended ARS as their ambulance collections company, according to Trio. The contract will be for a one-year term.  The township's rate with current ambulance collections company, Clayburn Medical Billing, is 7.5 percent, according to Trio. Newtown Township To Get New Website

Supervisors approved the contract to WSI for the new design and development of Newtown Township's website.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Good news for Newtown Township residents–supervisors unanimously approved the contract to develop and for a complete overhaul of the township website at a Board of Supervisors meeting earlier this month. The contract was awarded to WSI Internet Consultants for $5,000. The contract includes a complete re-design and upgrades for the existing website. According to Township Manager Mike Trio, a "conservative" timeline for the new website to be completed is within the first quarter.  "There will be no downtime," said Trio about the current website. 2013 Newtown Township Meeting Dates Announced

All meetings will be held at the municipal building along Bishop Hollow Road in Newtown Square.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township officials have announced the dates and times for their 2013 Board of Supervisors meetings at a reorganization meeting on Monday. The regular meetings will be held at the Newtown Township Municipal Building along Bishop Hollow Road biweekly every month. The regular meetings (usually second and fourth Mondays every month unless otherwise advertised) will begin at 7:30 p.m.  The meetings will cover a variety of topics relevant to Newtown Township residents, including but not limited to: sewage facilities plan, public safety, code of ordinances, administration and finance. Newtown Makes Board, Commission Appointments

Local residents will serve as representatives on various township committees and departments starting in 2013.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors appointed several people to township committees and departments at a reorganization meeting held on Monday, Jan. 7. The following appointments were approved by supervisors: Planning Commission (two, 4-year terms) Leonard Altieri III (replacing John Cellucci) Clare Frissora (replacing James M. Supervisors Appoint New Vice Chairman For 2013

Supervisors unanimously appointed Ed Partridge as Newtown Township's Board of Supervisors vice chairman and reappointed Joe Catania as chairman.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township will see a new vice president to help lead the Board of Supervisors in 2013. Supervisors unanimsously approved the appointment of Ed Partride as vice chairman and reappointed Joe Catania as chairman at a reorganization meeting on Monday night. Partridge will replace Supervisor Dr. Ross Lambert as vice chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Partridge, who previously served as a school board director of the Marple Newtown School District, won the primary against former Supervisor Linda Houldin on May 17, 2011.  After the meeting, Partridge told Marple Newtown Patch that he's looking forward to the challenge as the vice chairman of the board. Act 537 Residential Meeting To Be Held Tuesday

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township residents will have a chance to further discuss and comment on the proposed Act 537 Plan on Tuesday night. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the township municipal building. Supervisors had initially scheduled to vote on the Act 537 Plan at a meeting on Dec. 27th. However, after the urging of several residents to reconsider the vote at a Dec. 12th meeting, an announcement was posted on the township website on Dec. 21 that no action would be taken on the plan at the scheduled meeting. A handful of residents raised concerns over the proposed plan on the Dec. 27th meeting. Residents Raise Concerns Over Act 537 at Supervisors Meeting

The costs and the types of sewer systems were discussed.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township residents voiced their concerns about the proposed Act 537 Plan at a special Newtown Township Board of Supervisors meeting on Dec. 27. Margaret Barnett, of Woolman Drive, requested a cost-benefit analysis be done for each individual area included in the plan. Barnett, who came with one of her neighbors, said that the majority of homes on Woolman Drive have working septic systems and that the residents do not want to add sewers that will cost them thousands of dollars.  “This is not a cost-effective solution,” she said. Supervisors Approve 2013 Budget With 2.9% Tax Hike

The 2013 budget calls for a 2.9 percent tax increase for Newtown Township residents.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the 2013 budget at a special supervisors’ meeting on Thursday.  The budget includes a 2.9 percent tax increase, which is down from the original 4.5 percent increase that was proposed in the preliminary 2013 budget. The millage rate will be raised to 2.73 from the current rate of 2.664.  The average homeowner in Newtown Township, based on an average home assessed at $250,000, will pay $20 more in township taxes in 2013. This would bring the average homeowner’s real estate taxes to $685 per year, up from $665 per year. Township expenditures for 2013 will total to $7,729,192.  In addition, supervisors announced Thursday night that the township has settled with …

No Action To Be Taken on Act 537 Plan Thursday

Newtown Township has announced they will not vote on the Act 537 Plan at a special public meeting on Thursday, Dec. 27.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–According to Newtown Township's website, the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will not be taking action at the Dec. 27th public meeting on the Act 537 Plan. According to the website, the announcement was posted on Dec. 21 and further stated: "The Board will take additional public comment only at that time." Supervisors had initially scheduled to vote on the Act 537 Plan at Thursday's meeting. However, after the urging of several residents to reconsider the vote at a Dec. 12th meeting, a confirmation was not given on whether the vote would actually happen at Thursday's meeting.
