Newtown Makes Board, Commission Appointments

Local residents will serve as representatives on various township committees and departments starting in 2013.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors appointed several people to township committees and departments at a reorganization meeting held on Monday, Jan. 7. The following appointments were approved by supervisors: Planning Commission (two, 4-year terms) Leonard Altieri III (replacing John Cellucci) Clare Frissora (replacing James M. Supervisors Appoint New Vice Chairman For 2013

Supervisors unanimously appointed Ed Partridge as Newtown Township's Board of Supervisors vice chairman and reappointed Joe Catania as chairman.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township will see a new vice president to help lead the Board of Supervisors in 2013. Supervisors unanimsously approved the appointment of Ed Partride as vice chairman and reappointed Joe Catania as chairman at a reorganization meeting on Monday night. Partridge will replace Supervisor Dr. Ross Lambert as vice chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Partridge, who previously served as a school board director of the Marple Newtown School District, won the primary against former Supervisor Linda Houldin on May 17, 2011.  After the meeting, Partridge told Marple Newtown Patch that he's looking forward to the challenge as the vice chairman of the board. Molinaro Reappointed to Lead Commissioners in 2013

Sixth Ward Marple Commissioner Michael Molinaro will serve as president of the Marple Township Board of Commissioners and Fourth Ward Commissioner John Lucas will serve as vice president in 2013.

BROOMALL–The Marple Township Board of Commissioners reappointed 6th Ward Commissioner Michael Molinaro president of the board and 4th Ward Commissioner John Lucas as vice president at a reorganization meeting on Monday night. Both commissioners were the only candidates nominated for president and vice president, respectively, and both were reappointed with a 6-0 vote. Seventh Ward Commissioner Daniel Leefson was absent from the meeting because he was out of town. Molinaro’s list was long when the Marple Newtown Patch asked him what his goals would be for the new term. Marple Newtown School Board Votes In New President

A reorganization meeting was held on Monday, Dec. 3, for the Marple Newtown School Board.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Marple Newtown School Board voted in a new president at Monday night's reorganization meeting. Four-year school board director Kathryn Chandless replaced the seat formerly occupied by David McGinley. McGinley has served as president of the Marple Newtown School Board for approximately six years. Chandless has served on the board as the chair of the Human Resources Committee last year. School Board Director Rob Sack made a motion to appoint Chandless for board presidency. Delco Council Members, DA Sworn In

Three Delaware County council members and the new district attorney took office Tuesday.

MEDIA–Three Delaware County council members and the new District Attorney took office Tuesday. Thomas J. McGarrigle was sworn in to his second term on the five-member Delaware County Council. Also during the induction ceremony, Colleen P. Morrone and John P. McBlain took the oath of office for their first terms on the board. County council member terms run four years. John J. Whelan, former county council member chairman, was inducted as the county's District Attorney. Whelan's Jan. 3 resignation from the council to become District Attorney meant that the council would have 30 calendar days to fill the vacancy. It did not take them that long. Marple Formalizes New Government for 2012

Four commissioners were sworn in, and a host of appointments were made at a reorganization meeting Jan. 3.

BROOMALL–The new Marple government was formalized Tuesday night at the annual reorganization meeting of the Marple Township Board of Commissioners. First and Third Ward commissioners Joseph A. Rufo and Robert Fortebuono and incumbents John R. Longacre II (Ward 5) and Daniel D. Leefson (Ward 7) were officially sworn in on Tuesday night. Sitting Commissioners President Michael Molinaro and Vice President John Lucas accepted nominations to continue in thir positions, in which Molinaro cast an eye to 2012. NEWTOWN SQUARE–Joseph Catania was reelected to serve as Newtown Township's Board of Supervisor Chairman while Dr. Ross Lambert was also reelected to serve as vice chairman at a reorganization meeting Tuesday night. "I appreciate the confidence that the supervisor have in me and their vote," shared Catania after the meeting. Catania also shared his optimism in the new administration. "With the new administration, I really expect the year and job as supervisor to be less cumbersome. Government is going to run more efficiently." Marple Newtown School Board Reorganizes For 2012

David McGinley was reelected as president of the Marple Newtown School District Board of Directors while Nancy Galbraith was elected as vice president.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Marple Newtown School District Board of Directors held their reorganization meeting for 2012 on Monday, Dec. 5, where the five elected school board members from November's election will seve a four-year term on the board. At the meeting Monday night, incumbents Richard Sokorai and Fred Dewey as well as newcomers Jamie Mariano, Sherry-Lee McAuliffe and Robert Sack were sworn in by the Honorable Judge John Capuzzi Sr. of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas. Newtown Gets Rid of Old Administration, Appoints New Manager and Solicitor

The Newtown Board of Supervisors held a special reorganization meeting on June 1, where old administration were given the pink slip and new appointments were made.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–A special Newtown Township Board of Supervisors reorganization meeting was held on Wednesday evening, where old administration were removed from their positions and new appointments were made to fill the positions. The meeting began with appointing Supervisor Joseph Catania to the position as chairman, who last took the seat as chairman in 2007-2009. Dr. Ross Lambert was also appointed to fill the seat as vice chairman of the board. Former Chairman George Wood was absent in the beginning of the meeting and the motion carried unanimously 4-0. Lets not forget that ED is only appointed through December 2011. If he wants a six year term, he better earn it in the next five months or he may not be elected in November. As for hiring Larry Fischer as a financial consultant, the idea clearly illustrates how uninformed the current Supervisors are. Newtown Municipal Authority: High Hopes For Sewers This Year

Newtown Township's Municipal Authority is hopeful and serious about sewers this year.

Newtown Square–At the Newtown Township Municipal Authority reorganization meeting Tuesday night, the board wasted no time in getting down to business and getting serious with sewers this year. "I look at 2011 as a productive year," said Bob Jackson, who was reappointed to chairman of the board. "We made some progress last year but not the progress I'd like to see. I'm hopeful that with 100 percent effort from our professionals and the board that we'll start the sewers right away." A hot-button issue in town, the estimated $12 million project to install a sewer system throughout the township was approved by the state but appealed by two residents early last year, according to Jackson.
